Witches Finger Cookies

*Makes 2-4 dozen
(depending on the size of your fingers)

1c              sugar
2/3c           butter (softened)
2tsp           baking powder
1/4tsp        salt
2                eggs
1/2tsp        vanilla
2c or 3c     flour
12             almond slices (or pumpkin seeds)
* cinnamon powder for brushing on the knuckles.

Optional bones:
24 mini white marshmallows

Optional blood:
red icing ( 1/4 cup icing sugar and a bit of butter) or red jam to hold the marshmallow "bones"

Preheat oven to 375 degrees

Put sugar and butter in a mixing bowl and mix it with a wooden spoon until it is smooth and creamy.

Now add the eggs, vanilla, salt, baking powder, and mix really well.

To your wet mixture add a cup or so of flour, and mix.
If the dough is sticky, keep adding flour a 1/2 cup at a time until it is not sticky, and you can roll it in your hands easily.

Put some flour your counter top and put a piece of parchment paper on your cookie sheet.

Take a heaping teaspoon of dough and roll it in your hands to make a small "snake".

*Remember these swell up a lot so make sure its about half the size you want the finished cookie to be.

Put the snake dough on the floured countertop and using your own fingers as a guide add some contours.

With a small teaspoon, use the point to get some crevices in the dough for the knuckle wrinkles.

With the teaspoon bowl up, create a nail bed on the fingertip for the almond slice (or pumpkin seed)

Add the almond/pumpkin seed slipping them a bit under the nail bed so they hold.

Now place the fingers on the cookie tray.

Bake 375degrees for 10-12 minutes (don't burn them)

Let cool and brush some cinnamon on the knuckles.

You can also use a dot of red icing on the back of the finger to glue on a marshmallow bone if you'd like.
